CLUBS &
WORKSHOPS
One of the great benefits of living
in Morningside Gardens is the opportunity to join a variety
of workshops specializing in such areas as photography, ceramics,
woodworking, art, and computers. It is a wonderful way of
honing your skills and making new friends. Most of the groups
use the unique facilities available in the basement of Building
VI. There, you will find a darkroom, a ceramics studio, a
woodworking shop, an art studio, and a computer room. For
more information about these groups and how to join them,
contact the Management Office [(212) 865-3631], and ask to
be directed to the Chair of the Workshop Executive Committee.
In past years, other groups have formed
and disbanded. Most notable was an excellent chorus. Perhaps
it will emerge once again. Or, perhaps you have an entirely
new suggestion! Anything is possible.
CAMERA CLUB
The Camera Club is a workshop/club with a well-equipped darkroom.
The activities include slide and print shows, professional-level
photo contests, classes in photography and darkroom use, lectures
by well-known photographers, and field trips to photographic
sites. The Camera Club meets on the third Wednesday of each
month at 8:00 p.m. in the Recreation Center of Building I
(100 LaSalle Street).
CERAMICS GROUP
The Ceramics Group has a fully-equipped, modern pottery studio
available for use by members, with three electric pottery
wheels, two kilns, a clay slab roller, and other clay tools
and equipment. It is a clean and pleasant place in which to
work. Several types of clay are stocked, as well as ceramic
glazes in a range of colors from the muted to bright silver
and gold metallics. Weekly classes are held on Thursday evenings.
THEATER GROUP
Members of The Morningside Players share an interest in promoting
performing arts and producing plays in the Recreation Center
of Building I (100 LaSalle Street). People of all ages are
welcome as performers, directors, designers and technicians.
WOODWORKING GROUP
The Woodworking Group has a complete woodworking shop fully
equipped with an assortment of hand tools. Power tools such
as a table saw, band saw, drill press, cutoff saw, etc., are
available to those who can pass a safety test and take a class
in power tool use.
